FUNERAL OF THE LATE HON. R. PHARAZYN.
The respect entertained for the Hon. Robert Pharazyn, M.L.C., who died suddenly on Sunday, was evidenced by the number of people who followed his remains to the Bolton-street Cemetery this morning. The funeral was the largest seen in "Wellington for some time. It was attended by the Premier and the Hon. L. Walker, M.L.C., representing the Government; by the Speakers of both Houses of Parliament, and by most of the members of both Chambers. The chief mourners were the deceased's father (Mr. C. J. The service at the grave was conducted by the Rev. T. H. Sprott, of St. Paul's. Amongst those who sent wreaths were the Legislative Council, the Speaker of the Legislative Council, Sir R. and Lady Stout, Lady Douglas, Mrs. G. S. Cooper, Mrs. T. C. Mrs. R, Pharazyn lias received letters and telegrams from all parts of the colony. Amongst those in the procession there /were about 20 Chinamen, whose presence was a pleasing testimony of their grateful remembrance of one who, whenever an)' question regarding their race had been before the Legislature, had always stood out for what he considered to be just treatment of the aliens. We are reminded that Mr. Pharazyn. was for a considerable period engaged upon the literary staff of the Wellington Independent, now incorporated in the New Zealand Times.
