HARBOUR BO ARD
The monthly meeting of the Har'iour Board was held this aftprnoon. There were present — Messrs. T. J. Galo (Chairman), 0. W. Brown, J. H. Heaton, J. Jaok, JU. Beauobamp, F. H. Fraser, E. Pearce, and Captain Rose. The Chairman reportod that there was a debit on ourrent account of £2329 9s Bd, and that the amount on fixed deposit was £25,000. The Wharves and Accounts Committee reoommonded :— l. That the request of the surviving Trustee (Mr. R. C. Renner) of the Oriental Boating' Clnb that the foreshore license held by the club for a boat shed at Oriental Bay be cancelled from the end of 1896, bo agreed to. 2. That a foreshore license be granted to Mr. J. IS. Topp, Jan., for the foreshore adjoining his land at Evans' Bay, with permission to ereot a boatshed and landingstage, but that the Board decline to Banction the ereotion of a dwellinghouse over the water. 3. That the request of Mr. A. H. Truebridge for a cancellation of his lease of the bookstall on the Queen's Wharf and the issue of ft new one to Mr. C. Davis, be declined, but that the Board consent to the sublease of the building on conditions providing that the present lessee remains responsible. The recommendations were adopted. The Defence Department wrote asking if the Board had any objeotion to the laying down of a praotioa mine field for use in January. Tie Harbourmaster reported that unless the mine field was bnoyed, and lightships placed over it at nisht, the navigation of the port would be impeded. It was deoided to supply the Defonoe Department with a copy of the report. The committee sot up to deal with the question of the Wellington Meat Export Company's lease of land on Waterloo-quay recommended that the lease be extended on the following conditions : - (1) That the present lease be oanoelled as from 30th April, 1896 ; (2) that the rental be from that date £200 per annum ; (3) that the oompany covenant, in the lease, to freeze and store butter and other produoe, and to provide labour for grading and storing during the continuanoe of the lease at rates not exceeding those made from time to time for similar services in any other part of the oolony. The Committee also recommended the desirableness of setting aside annually the rental to bo«derived from the lease, or a por. tion thereof, as a sinking fund to provide for the replacement of the sum at which the Waterloo-quay seotions were valued in the Board's statement of assets. The Board went into Committee (Mr. Heaton objecting) to oonsider the recommendations. On resuming, the report was adopted, Mr. Heaton objecting to an extension of the lease, and it was deoided that £50 eaoh half-year be plaoed in the hands of the Sinking Fund Commissioners.
