PECULIAR ACTION FOR ASSAULT.
* Damages to the extent of £200 have peen awarded in Melbourne to ' Richard Shelley, gunsmith, in an action for assault against Edward Bowles, a farmer. It appears from the evidence that the defendant objected to visits paid to his house by plaintiff's housekeeper, and he ejected her. Shelley called a couple of days later t) to borrow a book, when Bowles rushed out and Btruck him on the arm with a piece of iron. An abscess formed, and the arm had to be amputated. Notice of appeal was given by defendant. Bowles is the husband of the lady who, while on her honeymoon trip some months ago, lost at arm by falling between a railwaj carriage and the platform at Brigfr ton. She and her husband subse quently recovered heavy damagei from the Railway Oommissoners.
