Deep-Level. Mining at Bondigo.

Recent developments in Mr Geoipro Lan sell's No. ISO mine, on Victoria Hill, Ben. digo (Victoria), »ro deservin? of more than passing notice, and for Eereral reasons (writes the Argus). Firstly, tlie bbaft i< the deepest in Australasia, and the work of sinking to this great depth las been carried out by one individual. The present depth of the shaft is 3151 feet, ond a oontraot is ptmg let to oonlinue it for 200 feet farther. At a depth of 3100 feet from the Burfaoe crosscuts were driven east and w*st, and in the former v quartz lode 17ft wide was met with. Gold was seen in the stone, whilst levels have now been started north and south. These levels have been driven by a patty of contractors, who have gone 29ft south and 17ft north. Somo good speoks of gold have been Been, but whether it will pay remains for the crusher -to prove. Bodiea of qnartz have also been met with in the 2900 ft and 3000 ft crosscuts, but these makes appear to be poor. A trial crushing from the 3100 ft levels will be put tbrongh in a week or two, and it goes without saying that everyone in Bendigo hopes that it-will prove payable.
