DAMAGES CLAIMED FOB ALLEGED BIGAMY.

A sequel to the recent charge of bigamy brought against Charles Waters, oyster d paler, Cuba-street, oropped up in the Magistrate's Court this morning Jane Rurspll, the oomplainant in the fornv-r case —whioh wa* dismissed by the Magistrate on the gronnd that he had not jurisdiction in regard to an offence committed in KcgUnd, brought on action claiming £200 as damage*, on the following gronnds : —That on the 10th December, 1861, the defendant married Charlotte Carnburn, and on the Ist January, 1890, while so married, he pretendtd and represented to the plaintiff. that he was a widower, and then married her. . Mr. E. G. Jellicoe appeared in support of the olaim, and Mr. T. Young was for the defence. Jane Russell, the plaintiff, stated that When a widow in London in 1889 she met the defendant Waters, and went through the form of marriage with him in January, 1890. He represented himself vi widower She had a little property of her own when she married him. TnflJune she learned from a nurse that the defendant's wife was then living. Waters denied that bis wife was living, and went away the next day to Ausiraiia, telling witness not to believe what she heard, but to sell out her businesa and follow him to Anatralia. where the lawn were different, and they could bo married again. She sold ont and followed him, bnt on her arrival at Sydney she was told he had disappeared. She went to a Magistrate in Sydney, and he isßued a warrant against Waters for wife desertion. Waters and witness mode it np again, and she went to Queensland with him, and afterwards oame to Wellington. On the 28th May hist she and Waters had a row, and he told her that h-i had committed bigamy. She then went to a lawyer and took proceedings. At this stage the case was odjournod till 3 p.m. _____________
