CANCER. TO THE EDITOR.
Sir— Your correspondent " Ono Who Lives, &c." appears to tbink that cancer is only caused through eating diseased meat. By all moans let the condition of our meat be well looked into, bnt there are other can bos at work. The Jews are neither drunkards nor excessive smokers, as are so many Gentiles. Nine men out of a dozen in New Zealand appear to have their pipes in their mouths from mom till night, and some, I am told, from night till morn. What part of the Old Country did yonr correspondent livo in, that he never know or heard there of anyone who died of cancer ? I have heard on good authority of scores of deaths, and in the village in which I was brought up was personally acquainted with five- women and three men who died of cancer. • They were poor people, who had very littlo meat, but one of the men, who had the cancer in his mouth, was a great drinker and smoker. lam>& °' J.T.H.
