THE COLLEGE TOURNAMENT. VICTORY FOR WELLINGTON.

The seoond match of the tournament was played on No. 1 ground, Petone, between Wellington and Christ's Colleges, tho local boys winning by 25 points to 3. Heavy rain fell dnring the game, bnt in no way damped the enthnsiaam of the spectators, amongst whom were several of the fair sex. Neill, the visiting captain, won the toss from Holyoako. Shortly after tho game opened a series of paok " scrnms " took place on tho tonchlino, and at last Hales (Wellington) broke the monotony with a strong dribblo, which carried the play to the southerner's territory. Tho ball coming ont on tho Wellington side. of a.sorimtnnge, Macara uassecl to Gray, -who "puzzled" Talbut and scored near the corner, Tripe failing to resistor tho major point -Wellington, 3; Christ's College, 0. On resuming the Bkoks (Wellington) went in for somo passing, which was hampered by the wind. Banks at this stage was showing to advantage for the Whiteß (Christohuroh), who, aided by a penalty kiok, invaded the local boys' territory. M'Konzie hero showed hia panting powers, and Macara passing out to Gray, tho latter showed a clean pair of heels to his opponents, and ho soored his Beoond try near tho poßt.s Gray took the kick himself and placed a goal Wellington, 8; Christ's College, 0. The visitorn, roused by this reverse, pulled themselves together, and Banks, after a short run, passed to No ill, who touched down between tho posts. The ball was placed for Cunningham, who laid "hands" on the ball, and the kick at goal was frustrated by tho Wellington players. Wellington, 8 ; Christ's College, 3. Gray, Tripe, Macara, and M'Kenzie, by some nice passing, maintained the attack on tho Christchurch line, where tho visiting team was penalised for off-side play, and Tripe landed an undeniable goal. Wellington, 11 ; Christ's College, 3. Half-time was then called. The second spell was all in favour of the local team. Tripe obtained two tries, Macara -also scoring, and Gray converted one of the j tries. The score stood when "No side " \ ma oalled— Wellington, 25 points ; Christ's College, 3. The winners played splendidly, tho "heeling" out tactics of Holyoako completely paralysing the opposing forwards. Macara and Payton made a capital pair of halves, both boys' passing with excellent judgment. Gray was the piok of tho threequarters, taking tho ball splendidly, in which department Tripe might have followed dnring the latter part of tho second spell. M'Kon/.io kicked with judgment, and Wallace was fair at full back. Cyrus Hales at times was really brilliant on the wing, Edwards also doing some good work. Holyoake, M'Farlano, Manning, and Gilmer, were conspiouons among tho paok forwards. The visitors we're outclassed in all departments, Banks and Neill being the only backs who sbowod anything like form. The tackling was deoidedly weak, and collaring low should be prac'ised more frequently in the future JCho southern forwards-uro a strong but not a olever division. Pascoe, Stndholme, Weave, and Blunden aro however deserving of mention. Mr. S. Nicholls made an effioienfc referee, the torfbh-lino judgos boing Messrs. F. Rolleston (Christ'a College) and it. Reid (Wellington). The Wellington Collego win the tournajnent this year, and their success is in a i*rge measure due to their coaohos— Mr. w P m Fi -E. th Tl!i 1 ?i rilloipal of tho Allege, and Mr. T. B. Ellison, the well-known Poneke player.

Tho Junior Representative praotico was not hoW ; and owing to several of the •• Aro and Thorndon players not inMing m an ,I'ipc r.mco, tho Sulwyn Club gumo (lid i.ob cvuiituutu.
