Christchdhch. 2nd Soptember. Yesterday and to-day were the most wintry days of the Beoson. Yesterday morning snow fell, light on the Plains and very heavy on tho hills, and during the day there were exceedingly cold sleet showers at intervals. Early this morning snow fell heavily, and at daybreak the ground, was covered to the depth of several inohes. The weather will cause much mortality amongst, lambs, besides retarding sowing operations, wilh whioh good progress was being made. Dunjidin, 2nd September. Intermittent showers of snow commenced to fall steadily at 3 p.m. on Saturday, and continued throughout nearly the whole night, This morning it lay fully bix inohes deep. A thaw has set in, but there have been frequent showerß of snow and hail throughout the day. At present there is no sign of the weather clearing up. Waipawa, This Dat. Snow fell in Waipawa yesterday and today—the first fall in six years. It is three inches deep on the Takapau Plains. Feildino. This Dat. Snow fell here yesterday. It was very heavy in the back country. Napier, This Dat. The weather since Saturday has been bitterly cold, and there was a slight fall of snow yesterday morning. Woodville, This Dat. A severe storm and cold weather were experienced here on Saturday and yesterday. Snow lies on the hills to a low level. It is ' feared results will be serious to the sheepfarmers so far as tho lambing season Is concerned. Auckland, This Dat. Phenomenally severe weather prevailed on Saturday and yesterday. Cold rain squalls, varied by sharp hailstorms and snow, fell in the afternoon —an unusual experience for Auokland. The weather was the severest felt in the city for 20 years. Gisbornb, This Dat. The a b. Wairarapa called in at the bay at 6.30 this morning. As a hctvy south-west sea was running, sho did not anchor, but steamed on for Auckland at 7 o'clock, without having communicated with tho shore. Yesterday and to-day the weather has been bitterly oold, and snow is lying low down on tho ranges.
