BIG FIRE IN SYDNEY.
BUILDINGS WRECKED BY FALLING DEBRIS. A FIREMAN KILLED. (united press association.] Stdnet, 2nd September. A disastrous fire broke out laat night in Mr. J. Lawlor's six-story furniture warehouse, 608, George-street, which was completely destroyed. The brick walls fell, hopelessly wrecking the premises of Messrs. Patching A Bond, drapers, Messrs. Earl & Lemaire, photographers, and the cells attaohed to the Central Police Station, besides one or two smaller buildings. The prisoners who were confined in the cells were removed safely before the walls fell. Fourteen fire brigades were engaged in extinguishing the flames. A fireman named Brown was killed by the falling debris. The origin of the outbreak is unknown. Lawlor's stook, which was valued at .£20,000, was insured for £15,000. The building, which was valued at £8000, was fully insured Lawlor's is a total loss, as nothing was saved. Tho New Zealand Insurance Company had a line of £1000 on Lawlor's stock.
