ANOTHER TRANBY CROFT CASE.

The south-west of Ireland in general aud the aristocracy of the city of Cork in particular, are just now agitated over a card scandal which threatens to end in a cause ckUbre of the Trauby Croft sort. The GordonCumming of the present incident in Mr. Joseph Pike, of Duneland (a pretty place between Cork and Queenstowu, on the Lea), who fought the city against Parnel! m 1885, and is a prominent member <A the County Club. Here he learn tit some time ago vague charges 01 cheating at curds were being brought against him. All endeavours to sheet them home directly to anybody, however, failed. He knew his tiaducers, but could not get legal pi oof of their libels. Ultimately, however, Mi*. Pike addressed letters to two officers, Colonel Spotiswoode and Captain Cooper, accusing them of the authorship of the allegations, and demanding their retraction or substantiation. To these epistles the gallant officers vouchsafed no reply, aud the club committee inexplicably refusing to interfere, Mr. Pike suemed to be without a remedy. Fortunately about this time another local military magnate, Captain Richard Piggot Beamish, afforded Mr. Pike the requisite opportunity for an action, and a writ for " libel, slander and conspiracy to defame," has been issued against him. Tho case, which excites strong feeling locally, will probably bo tried at Dublin. Mr. Pike does not soein a popular person. When he stood against Parnell the " uncrowned King" scored at tho rate of four votes to his ono.
