[UNITED PBXSS ASSOCIATION.] New Plymouth, sth. April. There was a large concourse of people in tho Recreation Groundß to-day to witness the ascent in a balloon by Miss Leila Adair. They wero disappointed, as the balloon caught firo during tho progress of inflation, and was totally destroyed. Miss Adair apologised, and hoped the people would not think it was done purposely. She stated Bhe would havo another balloon constructed, and would make an ascent in about a fortnight. Auckland, sth April. Constable Jones last night rescued a sailor of the Curacoa, named Hisoock, from drowning, at the Queen-street Wharf. Ohbibtchubch, sth April. At tho Supreme Court to-day, G. Fraser appealed from a, decision of the Magistrate fining him for issuing printed doouments withont an imprint. The appeal was upheld, and the conviction quashed, on the grounds that the appellant was only manager of the bnsiness, which is tho property of his brother, who is absent from New Zealand. Palmbeston Nobth, This Dat. Owing to the indisposition of Judge Kettle the Distriot Court was adjourned to-day till the 19th inst. Gisbobnh, This Dat. A company has been formed and a plant purchased for a new evening joarnal in Gisborne, of Liberal polioy. The first issue is expeoted to come out on the Ist May.
