I UNITED PBBSS ASSOCIATION. I Stdnet, 17th January. Arrived — Manapouri, from Auckland. (Received January 18, 10.45 a.m.) London, 17th January. The total quantity of wheat and flour afloat for the United Kingdom is 2,880,000 quarters, and for the Continent 1,000,000 quarters. The total number of bales of wool that have arrived is 336,000, of which 88,000 bales have been forwarded direct to the manufacturing districts. With the quantity held over from the last series, 270,000 bales will be available for the present series. At the sales, the bidding is spirited, and the prices are well maintained. Mrssrs. Murray, Roberts and Co. report :— We are to-day m receipt of the following cable message from our London friends, Messrs. Sanderson. Murray and Co., regarding the wool sales :— " London, 16th January.— The sales have opened with a good attendance of buyers. For merino the market shows no change, bnt competition is weak. For cross-bred the market is firm." The New Zealand Land Association has received the following cable message from London :—": — " Wool. — The sales opened this day at the level of last sales. The attendance of both Home and foreign buyers is normal, and competition fairly active. The total quantity available, including wool held over from last sales, is 358,000 bales, 88,000 bales of which have been forwarded to the manufacturing districts direct. Wheat. — The market is quiet, and quotations are unchanged since last telegram." Messrs. A. G. Tame & Co. report having received the following cable message from their London agents : — " London, 16th January. Wool sales have opened. Good attendance and competition ; market firm."
