SPORTING. W.R.C. SPRING MEETING. [By Australia

The prospect of fine weather for the opening day of the Wellington Racing Club's Spring Meeting, set down for to-morrow, does not look very bright at the time of writing. The course has not suffered much by last night's rain, and if it holds off tonight the surface will be in fair order. A large number of visitors have arrived in town, and a good attendance should result. Although the acceptances were very poor, good fields will sport silk in several of the events. The arrangements are, as nsual, as complete as one conld wish for. Mr. W. Johnson, whose first-class catering is so well known, will be in charge of thu grandstand bar and luncheon-room. The train arrangements are pnblished elsewhere. The ball will be set rolling by the GrandBtand Handicap, for which the best field of the day should face the starter. Dreamland, Soot Free, and Prince Cole have recent wins to their credit, and they all look well in. It is a difficult task to spot the winner of this race, as the candidates are much of a muchness. My fancy, however, is the consistent Musket, while the ex-hack Sea Serpent might effect a surprise. For the Hurdle Handicap, Waterbury is sure te go out a hot favourite, but I would not be surprised to see his colonrs lowered by Viola 11. Only five horses have paid up for the Hack Hurdles, and of these Vasco, if as good as reported, should take most beating, but Prido of the Hills will run well forward. In tho Hutt Park Spring Handicap, on the Wanganui running Rangipuhi should beat the New Zealand Cup winner, Kosefeldt, but as she has improved sinco then Bhe may turn tbe tables on him tomorrow. Krina iB reported as being very well, and Musket and Prince Cole might have outside chances ; but victory should rest with the two top-weights, and of the two I profer Rosefeldt. Banner should win the Maiden Plate after a good race with his two opponents. The Hack Race ought to result in an even raoe, and Delusion and Sedition, on tho Wairarapa and Maryborough running, must take a lot of beating, while Sweet Dream can hardly said to be out of it. Of the three my vote goes for Sidition. A wretohed acceptance 1 has taken placo in the Flying Handicap, and Rebellion, if not stale after his Christchuroh trip, ongLt to put his three opponents down comfortably. If Swordbelt were at his best he would hold a mortgage over the Shorts Handicap, but he hasu't been seen out in public since his leg gave way last season, which has caused his trainer a lot of trouble. I therefore fancy ho will go down before Porepo. The following horses, which have put up at M'Nab's Gardens, have arrived to take part in the meeting :— Dreamland (Morigan in charge), Krina (W. Edwards in charge), Qnoen of Trnmps and Free Lance ((Jarrington in charge), Rosefeldt, Va, and Waterbury (G. Hope in charge), Scot Free, and Rangipuhi. Musket and Banner came down from Wanganui last night, and Eclipse and I Vasco from Howke's Bay.
