THE WATER SUPPLY.
TO THE KDITOU. Sm— Straws show how tlio wind blows. Tho Mayor's advico to householders to conservo water by means of tanks points to a possible scaroity of water this summer, which wo may expect to be very dry. Wo ought to commence at once. Let the City Council como to some arrangomonts with the Elcotrio Light Company to drivo their motors through the summer months by steam power, and save thousands of gallons. i\nd while on this subject, it baa occurred to me to suggest another means of saving needles* waste. The water that passes all night through tho oleutric Itirlit motors tiiifjht 1.0 run into a largo concrete tank, as they havo in Christuhutch, and pumped with California pumps into the water carts, and used to water the streets through the day. By drawing tho attention of tho powers that bo to these suggestions, which, if acted upon, will cortaiuly save a groat deal of water, you will bo doing good service. 1 am, &c, R.M.
