THE VOLUNTEERS.
* The D Battery will hold a competition for Martini-Honry and long rifles and oarbines on tho range at 5.30 o'clock on Tuesday morning next. Members tnuet fire with the best arm in their possession. First and second ammunition prizes will be given for tho highest score with eaoh arm. Ranges, 300 yards, 10 shots for carbines ; and 300 and 500 yards, 7 shots at each for riflea. Ammunition may bo obtained of Sergeant Kuchen. The Shooting Committees of the varioas volunteer companies, who have been making arrangements for the formation of the Wellington Riflo Union, hold a meeting in the Drilshud last ovenir.g, when the ohair was oooupied by Colour-Sergeant Davis. Tho rules as drafted by tho Provisional Committee wore adoptod with a few amendments, and it was rosolved to ask Mr. H. D. Crawford to aooept the prosidonoy of the Union, and Major Loveday and Captain Duncan were appointed vioepresidents. It was deoided that the committee of management ahould be composed of one member from oaoh carps, and the elootion of three members will take plaoe at tho next paradeß of tho various companies.
