The Volunteers.
The usual weekly competition by the Guards will be held at the Cadet Range on Tuesday morning next, commencing at 4.45. B Class will hold their first match for the telescope presented by the company, and the C and D Class the fourth competition for Mr. Watt's and E. W. Mills & Co.'s trophies. A special inducement will be held out for members of the D Class who have not previously competed— -40 rounds of ammunition will be given to every man who can make the score of 45 points. Ammunition prizes will also be given to the second highest scorer in the different olaases, Ammunition may be had from Sergeant Townsend. Tbe attention of members of the City Rifles is called to advertisement re daylight parade on Friday night next. Capt. Collins having given np the shed to the Musical Festival Committee for Mr. Parker'i benefit, there will be no parade on Monday evening. The Newtown Rifles will hold a competition for all classes on Monday, at 300, 500, and 600 yards, 7 shots at each range. Firing will start at 5 a.m.
