+ THE PEOPOSED TWO DAYS' REGATTA. An adjournod meeting of delegates appointed by the aquatic clubs to consider the proposal to hold a two days' regatta in Wellington was hold in the Pier Hotel last evening. There were present— Messrs. W. H. Qniofc (in the chair), E. C. Mills, and A. A. Duncan, Port Nicholson Yaoht Club ; E. Jaokson and A. S. Biss, Star Boating Club ; A. G. Johnson, J. B. Speed, W. Bridaon, and G. S. Monatt, Wellington Rowing Club ; R. C. Renner, W A. Thomas, J. B. 'Tringham, and F. Stevens, Jan., Oriental Bay Boating Club. A letter was read from Mr. A. S. Biss, Secretary of the Star Club, stating that the Star and Wellington Clubs' delegates had met and drawn up a programme for a rowing regatta on the last Saturday in February. He pointod out that the prize money had boon fixed on the lowest scale, and the delegates understood that should subscriptions amount to more than the sum required for the sailing and rowing regattas the surpins would bo distributed proportionately between the two. He had also been directed to state that should the New Zealand Amateur Rowing Association allot any champion events to the above regatta, the priEO money for those events Bhould be increased, and the delegates presumed'that provision would be made for this contingency. The programme was as follows: — Sonior Fonr-oared Outriggers, two miles— lst prize, .£25; 2nd, .£8; 3rd, £4 (six boats to start or no third prize). Maiden Fonr-oared Inriggers (string test), one mile— lst prize, .£B. Junior Fouroared outriggers, one mile and a half— Ist prise, £10 ; 2nd prize, £2 (four boats to start or no second prize). Sonior Four-oared Inriggers (string test), one and a half miles — Ist prize, £15 ; 2nd prize, .£3 (four boats to start or no race). Senior Double Sculls, one and a half miles— lst prize, JBB. Ladies' Plate Four-oarod Outriggors, two miles— Ist prize, .£l5 ; 2nd prize, £3 (open to crews not conpeting in race No. 1, four boats to start or no second prize). Senior Pairs, one and a half miles — Ist prize, £8. Sculls, one and a half miles— lst prizo, £8. Coxswain's Race— Prize, trophy. With the exception of race No. 1, all to bo rowed in best and best boats. At a subsequent stage of the meeting this programme was adopted. Some disonssion took place as to whether there should be Association rowing races at the Anniversary Regatta on the 22nd January. Mr. Johnson moved that the races under the Association rules should remain on the programme. The resolution was seconded by Mr. Speed. Mr. Biss said that the Star Club would decline to row under the same circumstances as last year. It was true that both boats were alike, but as they both belonged to the Wellingtons the Starß had no opportunity of practising in them, and were, consequently, at a great disadvantage. Mr. Johnson pointed out that if the meeting decided to retain the events the clubs could afterwards arrange what boatß should be used. Mr. Jackson said he did not believe in rowing inrigged gig races at a sailing regatta. Mr. Speed was of opinion that the public wonld take a greater interest in the regatta if there were races between the two clubs. Mr. BUb said that as the Star men would be rowing in outriggers at the Nelson regatta at Christmas, it would not do them any good to use inrigged gigß at the Anniversary Regatta here in Jannary. If it would pleaso the public to see races between the two clubs on Anniversary Day, whaleboats might be used, and a different clasß of men selected to row them. Mr. Johnson said he was surprised to find that the Stars were not likely to compete at the sailing regatta. If the Stars would not row, of course there was an end of the matter. Messrs. Jackson and Biss stated that they were not authorised to Bay the Stars would not compete, but they understood that the committee were averse to rowing under the same circumstances as last year. Mr. Bridson suggested that the races should be in best and best boats. Messrs. Jackson and Biss said that if that were done the Stars would not object to compete. After further discussion the consideration of the subject was deferred, in order to allow the Star Club committee to consider the question. Mr. Tringham, on behalf of the Oriental Bay Boating Club, suggested that a race for open sailing-boats, 16ft on the waterlino, should bo added to the programme of the Anniversary Regatta. The Chairman pointed out that the sailing programme had been settlod by the Port Nicholson Yacht Club; hut suggested that Mr. Tringham should wait upon that body and endeavour to get a race for 16ft open Bailing-boats added. The question of holding a public meeting to discuss the question of a two days' regatta was considered. Mr. Duncan expressed the opinion that it would be desirable to hold a meeting wbioh could be o

ittended by persons who aro interested jn a two days' regatta but who were not uel*-' jates from any of tho clubs. He moved th»t after settling preliminaries a public meeting should be hold. Mr. J. Waymouth, sen., Commodore of the Auckland Yacht Club, -itliO was present by invitation, j explained that In the Northern city j the regatta was managed by a> committee electod by subscribers. There waa no public meeting, but bimply a meeting of subscribers, and ho thought the same plan shonld bo adopted here. Mr. R. C. Kennor seconded the" motion, which was lost. c The following gentlemen wore appointed * to flanfrtss for subscriptions in aid of the c general fund ;— Messrs. G. Mcc, E. C. Mills, A. 6. Johnson, A. S. Blss, J. B. Tringham, \ &. A: Drinpan,- J. B. Speed, Myers, H. Hyains, ana! E: C; Rennor. . It was stated that the estimated exponcfi- I ture for xhe sailing races would bo i! 200 of which would bo ' for prizes. It was ' ' decided that of the general futid ' should bo for the rowing regatta priZeß, and £200 for tho sailing regatta prizos. •. ( [Bt Tki.kobaph,| ( [ONITEU Pitfise I , Wanganui, 2^ Oetobor.
