The Bankruptcy of Henry Berg.
A mooting of the creditors of Henry Berg, i boatbuilder, was convened for 11 o'clock this morning, bnt lapsed for want of a ' quorum. The debtor has handed the fol- , lowing statement to the Official Assignee :— " I have a wife and ten children, of whom eight are at home and dependent upon me. Tho youngest is nine months old. None of these children are at present earning anything. I got into difficulties about four years ago in consequence of a severe accident, which laid me np and provented my working at my trade for five months and nineteen days. During that time I earned nothing, and when restored to health, rent, living, and medic il expenses amounted to .£lOO. Since then I) have straggled to pay off these debts and to live, but without success. My earnings, allowing for broken time and bad debts, have averagod about 4s per diem for the last three years and a half, and had it not been for the assistance rendered mo by my daughters, who are now married, I should not have been able to maintain myself. All this time I have had to pay rent for a boatshed and house, 17s per week. I have kopt no books, because I have no property but my own labour, and being a Dane by birth find difficulty in writing in English. I have sought the protection of the Bankruptcy Court because losses sustained in an unfortunate contraot with Mr. Jamieson, of Jamieson Bros , and impatience on the part of several of my creditors, who have uithcr sued or threatened to sue me, ronder my position hopeless. Unless rolieved from the pressure of creditors I shall Lave to throw the charge of my family on charitable aid. I owe about 20a for rent. I have no assets, but some furniture valued at .£15."
