The Seacliff Lunatic Asylum Enquiries.
TBt Telegbafh.l (Owr Own Correspondent.) Duneiun, This Dat. Dr. Jeffreys publishes a letter from the Colonial Secretary exculpating him from blame in connection with the recent Seacliff Asylum enquiry. The letter conoludes : — " For reasons which seem good to the Government, it has been decided that the report shall not be handed to the papers for publication. Had it been determined to retain Dr. Neill'g Beryicea the pnblio could probably have properly demanded to be informed folly as to the ground of such retention, but where it has been determined that a change shall be made, the appeal to the public can safely be left to the person principally affected, without satisfying those newspapers which are controlled by persons anxious to increase in favour by ministering to the morbid curiosity of the wont sort of their readers, through the weakness of others." It has been decided that the Seacliff Asylum Building Commission, which commences its sittings on Thursday, shall be open to the press.
