Fires.

[united press association.] Napier, 7th February. At 9 o'clock to-night the manager's residence, attached to the National Bank, was discovered to be on fire in an upstairs room. The damage will be considerable, as probably the whole roof and ceilings will have to be renewed, and the damage by water in the lower rooms made good. The_ canse of the fire was the mysterious ignition of some papers on a shelf in a bedroom which had not been occupied for some time. Auckland, 7th February. A fire oocurred this morning in a fourroomed cottage in Liverpool-street, which was partially destroyed. The house, which had been unoccupied for a fortnight, was the property of A. Campbell, of Dublin-street.
