The fact that Mr, Hatoh's schooner, the Awaroa, rescued the Derry Caßtle survivors from the Auckland Islands has been the main topio of conversation here to-day. Mr. Hatch, the owner, is the late member for the town, and again a candidate. When questioned at meetings as to the destination of the vessel, which left here about six weeks ago, he replied that the sohooner had gone to the islands in Bass' Straits to hunt seals, and had not, to his knowledge, gone to tho Aucklands for the same purpose, the seals there being at present protected. The news from Molbonrne has therefore been made political capital of.
