The bill was thrown out by the Grand Jury against Riddle for shooting a cow. This was all tho criminal business. Donedin, 15th Juno. Buns 301b and 302 c, To Anau, which formed tho subject of a question in the House recently, wore sold on behalf of the School Commissioners to-day, at an upset rental of £630 to a Mr. Grant. Tho same purchaser bought runs at Tokatimo, Southland, containing 22,530 acres, at the upset rental of J3300 per annum. Napier, 15th June. At tho Harbour Board meeting to-day, the tender of Mr. W. M'Gill, of Timaru, for .£33,900 for the contraction of tho first section of 660 ft of tho breakwater was accepted. Several other tenders from Timaru were received. New Plymouth, This Day. A largo meeting of ratepayers was held last night to protest against the passing of tho New Plymouth Reserves Bill, which makes over nearly 50 acres of the borough to trustees for racing purposes, thus reducing the rating area. Already out of tho borough there has been taken an area of 50 acres for the recreation ground and park ; then the General Government took Marsland Hill an a reserve, in addition to the reserves at Mount Elliot and the. Market Place, the Botanical Gardens and tho Kawai Pah reserve. The Agricultural Socioty haB albo a reserve, and the borough rating area is thus reduced from 800 acres to little over 400 acres, and now 50 acres more is proposed to be taken off. Resolutions, condemning the action of Major Atkinson and Colonol Trimble, wore passed by over two-thirds of those present, and tho statements of Major Atkiuson and Colonel Trimble in tho House were stated to be incorrect. A petition against the Bill is being largely signed for transmission to the Legislative Council.
