Last Thursday morning, between 3 and 4 o'clock, several persons tn this district distinctly heard a report like the boom of a gnn fired at sea. bpme of them rose to see if any vessela under shelter at Kaikonra -Peninsula were firing signals of distress, but not observing any «gB3, took no further notice of the matter
