The Volunteers.
We understand that Lieutenant Coppin, of A Company (City Rifles) has resigned his commission, as he is about to visit England. There will be drill for the City Rifles this evening. Recruit drill is being held every Tuesday evening at Mount Cook, but we regret to learn, in the face of a battalion order issued by the officer commanding, that only two companies have complied with it, vis., A and B Companies (City Rifles and Guards). The officers commanding C and D (Wellington : Rifles and Newtown Rifles) have not, as yet, ! complied with the order, although it has been issued some months. The Garrison Band will attend the inspeotion of the Guards this evening. After the inspection, there will be a march out. A meeting of the Amusement Committee for carrying out the concert and danoe on Wednesday next wOl be held at the Drillshod this evening at 8.30. We regret to learn that the Polhill Gully range is in such a bad state after the late -serere weather, that shooting is impossible, and that the Volunteers will be unable to fire thero again for some time to come.
