Sfß— As Ido not wish any misapprehension to ezist as to what took place with' tho witness Ed ward M'lntoah when I served him with the subpoena herein, I beg to state that what took place was as follows ; — When he had been nerved he asked me for his expenses. J told him (hat it Being a criminal case he lysis not at preaent entitled to expenaes. He replied that it was rather hard to lose a day's work' and pay the expenses of going to Wellington, and that he would not mind going to . town if he conld make some monej out of it. I then informed him that if he would get me Buch information as wonld lead to' the conviotion of tho pariios who had committed the outrage, I wonld pay him and obtain q. free pardon for any one who had been concerned in the assault, and would give the necessary evidence. The above conversation
took place in the presence of Mr. Payne, the stationmaater, at tho Lower Hutt. I am, &o , Robebt Obb.
