In the House this afternoon (Mr. Hamlin in the ohsir), Mr. DaritavJlle {rave notioe to move to-morrow, that the districts through whioh the Otago Central and the East and West Coast and Nelson BaUways are to pass, he constituted separate railway distriots. In answer to Mr. Johnston, the Treasurer said he wonld do what was possible next year to have a return compiled by the Property Tax Depaiiment similar to the classification of 1881, but giving in addition the tjt'l amount noon wtiioh each o'iaa pays tax; also, tne number in each olass exempt from taxation, and the total amount of such exemption. Mr. J. B. Whjte asked the Minister for Public Works if he will cause the scheme of railway management advocated by Mr. Samuel Vaile to be examined and reportad on by some one who, in his opinion, is oompetent to deal with the subject, with a view to the publication of that repot t? Mr. Riohardion, in reply, said he would lay any papers on the subjeot that might be deemed of interest on the table, and if the hon. pentleman did not think the enquiries already made were sufficient, he (Mr. Biohardaon) would be glad to make further enquiries.
