ESSENCE OF PARLIAMENT.
LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. Mr. Shrimski's motion to refund the Private Bill fees paid on the Congregational Union Incorporation BUI and the St. Mary's Convent Property Leasing Bill was rejected by 26 to 8. A motion authorising the Speaker during the reoess to have Borne improvements effected in the Counoil Chamber was agreed to, and managers were appointed for a ' seoond free conference on the Education Aot Amendment BUI Leave of absenoe for ten i days was granted to Dr. Pollen, and Mr. Taiaroa's motion as to Middle Island native land purchases, was, after disoussion, withdrawn, the mover saying he hoped the Government would look into the matter. The Gold Mining Districts Aot Amendment Bill was read a seoond time, and also the Railway Act Amendment Bill and the Auokland Bailway Land Compensation Bill. Managers were appointed for a conference on the amendments in the Employment of Females and Others Bill and the Mines Aot Amendment Bill snd Mining Companies Aot Amendment Bill were read a third time and passed. Several Bills were considered in Committee, and the Council rose at 5 p.m.
