The Hospital Commission and the New Zealand Times.

Before proceeding with the evidence to-day in the enquiry now being held by the Hospital Commission, the Chairman, the Hon. W. Reeves, M.L.C., specially addressed the press reporters present, directing their attention to an obvious error in the report of the firat day's proceedings as appearing in the columns of the New Zealand Times. The reporter of that paper had made it to appear at the conclusion of Mr. Randal Johnson's evidence that the Chairman of the Commission had said "that personally, and quite apart from his position, he thought the nurses deserved to be dismissed." This was calculated to give the publio the imprer sion that he, the Chairman of the Commission, had so far forgotten what waß due to his position on the enquiry aa to prejudge the otse. Mr. Beeves regretted that the error had not been corrected in this morning's issue. The facts were, that in reply to a question by Mr. Harper, Mr. Randal Johnson, then under examination, used the words alluded to, speaking of his own personal opinion, apart from his position as Chairman of the Hospital Committee. The reporters were present to give the publio a correct impression of the proceedings, and when in doubt ponld obtain any assistance required from the shorthand notes of the Seoretary, the Commission being willing to give the press every faoility. He hoped the Times reporter would take care that a correction appeared at the earliest opportunity.
