(Received September 27, 1.16 p.m.) , Mhlboobnb, Thib Day. Mr. Service, Premier, has telegraphed to Mr. Murray Smith in London, instructing him to consult with the other Agents-General on the question of a protectorate over the Pacific Islands, and to co-operato with them in joint representations to Lord Derby, and if necessary, to Mr. Gladstone, on the subject of such protectorate. It is understood that the Governments of South Australia, Queensland, and New Zealand have telegraphed similarly to the Agents-General of those colonies. Further communications have passed between Mr. Service and Mr. Stuart, Premier 'of New South Wales, on the subject of the former's proposal, but the breach between the two colonies is iv nowise lessened.
