The question of power of local Boards of Health to enforce the construction of earth closets underthe Public Health Act is to be tried before Mr. .Justice Williams at Inrercargill. The Government, at the request oi the contractors, intend instituting a searching inquiry into the real cause of the Waireka accident. Mr. CracknelljSuperintendeut of Telegraphs, New South Wales, is a -passenger to England, via San Francisco, by the Australia. At the Bluff he sent a message to Sydney, and received a reply in two hours. A public meeting has been held to define the boundaries of districts in the event of the Abolition Act being given effect to. The friendly societies here complain that no copies of the new bill have been sent to them. None of the papers comment on the Australia touching the bank, but it is understood that Captain Cargill will not venture here again with her.
