Creighton's report on the graving dock shows that Point Calliope is very suitable, but that the cost will be heavy. It is estimated at £120,000. The Board has determined to construct a dock on the site fixed upon before at a cost of £65.000. A letter from a gentleman of position to the Star, shows that before its sale to Russell and Co., he was prepared to give £30,000 for the Piako swamp, which the Government sold for £10.000. and' after making an application for the land, he was floating a company in Eugland to settle it, when he discovered that in the meanwhile the private sale had taken place. He estimates that the construction of a railway through it by the Government has e nhanced its value to £100,000.
