At Southbridge
"GET CRACKING" FOR
SATURDAY
George Formby, with his ukelele, new song-hits and a secret weapon goes an service with the Home Guard and provides the material for his latest film, "Get Cracking," which will be screened at Southbridge Talkies on Saturday and at Leeston Theatre the following Saturday. British critics were unanimous in their praise ,of this laughter-provoking picture and the following is an example:
The new George Formby picture, "Get Cracking," is a thoroughly agreeable farce. It contains some much better fooling than one or two previous Formby films. What conscientious members of Britain's unpaid army will think of it remains to be seen, for the script writers have taken the Home Guard for a merciless sleigh ride.
The plot is built upon the rivalry between the Home Guard units in the neighbouring villages of Major Wallop and Minor Wallop. After a series of misadventures, George's home-made tank wins him his stripes and the girl he .admires (Dinah Sheridan).
Vera Francis gives a delightful performance as an evacuee child who is George's assistant in his garage. The ,cast includes Edward Rigby, Frank Pettingell and Ronald Shiner.
