Springston

VICE VERSA DANCE

In the Springston Hall next Saturday evening- the Young Farmers' Club will hold a vice versa dance, to which residents are invited. Stewart's Band is to play .and there will be a five hundred competition in the supper room.

A pantry gift evening in honour of Miss Trixie Blakemore, who is to be married this month, was held by the members of the Sunshine Club. Competitions were won by Misses T. Blakemore, M. Riordan, W. Lancaster and Mrs J. F. Blakemore. Miss M. Mounce, on behalf of the club, presented Miss Blakemore with numerous gifts. Miss Pearl Wall presented the guest of the evening with a novelty bouquet. Miss Blakemore expressed her appreciation of the gifts.

There was a large attendance at the patriotic dance and flag 500 held in the" Springston Hall. Music for dancing was played by Stewart's Band, extras being given by Miss M. Mills. A Monte Carlo was won by Miss B. Stewart and partner. Mr C. W.oods was M.C. Most I successful card players were Mr and Mi's J. F. Blakemore and Mrs P. V. Bailey. The monthly meeting of the Springston Women's Institute was held at .the residence of Mrs C. N. C. Powell. Mrs H. Hoskin presided over a good attendance of members and frif/ids. The roll call was: "If I were a man, who would I like to be." Members brought a 'number of garments for tlie London Distress Fund. The" president reported on the recent Federation meeting. Treasure hunts and competitions were enjoyed. Competitions were won by Mesdames K.

Moore, J. Radford, W. Hopkins and G. Smithers.

The monthly competitions, judged by Mesdames E. H. Rowell and D. Marshall, resulted: Large bloom, Mrs H. Hamilton 1, Mrs W. Wright 2, Mrs G. Smithers 3; small bloom, Mrs W. Wright 1, Mrs J. Blakemore 2, Mrs W. Mounce 3; bowl of ranunculi, Mrs A. Powell 1, Mrs W. Mounce 2, Mrs W. Leslie 3; seed cake, Mrs P. V. Bailey i, Mi's A. Powell 2, Mrs N. Powell 3; table centre, Mrs J. Blakemore 1, Mrs W. Wright 2, Miss I. Powell 3.

The wandering shilling was won by Mrs W. Hopkins. Ice creams were served by Miss I. Powell. Mrs Hoskin thanked Mrs Powell for the use of her home and garden. Mrs H. Hamilton has kindly offered her home for the next meeting.
