BRITAIN AND SPAIN
TRADE NEGOTIATIONS
TREATY EXPECTED SHORTLY
The trade negotiations between Britain and Spain have entered the stage from which a treaty can be expected shortly, says the diplomatic correspondent of the London Sunday Times.
The Spanish Ambassador in London, the Marquis of Alba, had long conferelnces with the Foreign Minister, Viscount Halifax, after the commencement of negotiations last November.
Improved trade relations between Britain, France aiid Spain are regarded as significant, indicating a Unanimous desire to restore the former political friendship.
The Sunday Times adds: "News received in London in connection with Spaish internal politics is hot reassuring, because the contest between the Falangists and Traditionalists is becoming sharper, resulting in an emergency Cabinet meeting, which Senor Suner, the Minister of the Interior, refused to attend.
"Traditionalists desire the restoration of pre-war conditions but Franco has warned them that he intends to continue syndicalist ex-
periments."
