ELLESMERE CHAMPIONSHIPS

On Saturday the first of the Ellesmere championship series will take place on the Southbridge green.

This trophy changed hands again as a result of a match played last night, when Creagh and Gwatkin beat the holders, Dalley and Johnson.

Recently Mr A. Dickson, ' of! Christchurch, a , well-known bowling official, presented a trophy for competition between the Canterbury Centre and the Ellesmere Association. The first match for the bowl took place at Leeston green on Saturday afternoon, when seven rinks of city bowlers took .part in the games. Conditions were pleasant and the match, which proved in every way an enjoyable one, was won by the visitors. The president of the Ellesmere Association, Mr G. Doyle, welcomed the visiting team and expressed the pleasure of the Association at having such a handsome trophy to i play for through the generosity of Mr Dickson. Mr T. D. Lennie replied oh behalf of the visitors. Mr Dickson has been for many years the delegate of the Leeston Club on the Centre and opportunity was taken of his presence with the visitors for members of the club to express their appreciation of the services ' rendered to it by Mr Dickson. This was done in the form of a presentation of a pipe, which was made by Mr S. Johnston, as the oldest member of the club. The scores follow, Christchurch names being given first:— L. Scanes, R.
