WILL, HAY IN "OH, MR PORTER!"
"Oh, Mr Porter!" coming to the Southbridge Town Hall tomorrow evening, shows Will Hay as the stationmaster of the remote station of Buggleskelly, aidded and abetted by Graham Moffatt and Moore Marriott. One of the most amusing scenes in the film shows the star arriving to take up his new post in a torrential downpour of rain. The third night he decided to take no chances. The Alton fire brigade, who had not had a call for ten years was hired, and at 10 o'clock work commenced. The arcs were lit, cameras set, the hoses put in position and Jeremiah Harbottle and Albert snugly tucked away in the station master's office ready to greet the new arrival. Just as Marcel Varnel shouted—"O-Kay boys, let's shoot," the telephone bell rang. Six miles away a big fire had broken out and the fire chief had to leave his filmmaking to put it out.
"A 3,650 to 1 chance," said Marcel Varnel, tearing his hair, "and it had to happen to me!"
