Lakeside
SCHOOL. CHILDREN'S FLOWER
SHOW
SUCCESSFUL FIRST' VENTURE
Not much more than a week ago the suggestion was made that the children of Lakeside school should hold their own flower show, in conjunction with the Agricultural Club, when the projects were potatoes, carrots, beans, sweet peas and zinnias. The idea was taken up with enthusiasm; the children appointed their own committee, with Shona McFarlane as chairman and Margaret Patterson as secretary and for the next few days they were busily engaged. The result of their efforts was seen in the school yesterday afternoon when the show took place. One of the rooms was set apart for the display and a very creditable one was staged, one thoroughly deserving the congratulatory remarks of the judges and of the visitors, of whom there were quiet a few during the afternoon. The children did all the work in connexion with the show, preparing a schedule of 38 classes, receiving the entries, acting as stewards, and writing up the record book. There were over one hundred entries, indicating the keen interest taken and many of the exhibits were up to show standard. The judges were Mesdames W. Lambie, J. Anderson, and Dick, who gave the children some suggestions in the selection of flowers and vegetables for show.
