CHRYSANTHEMUM SHOW

FINE DISPLAY AT SPRINGSTON.

The chrysanthemum show held in the Springston Methodist Schoolroom under the auspices of the Methodist Church on Tuesday was most successful, the results being far above expectations. The entries were a record, both in number and quality. The other features were the large entries in the decorative, vegetable and cooking classes. There was also a splendid attendance both in the afternoon and again in the evening.

Some very fine blooms were sent in by Miss Doak, of Irwell, for exhibition only, while Mr C. Dyer, of Papanui, had on exhibition a fine collection of apples.

At the opening ceremony the Rev. C. H. Kendon presided. Mr J. S. Simpson, chairman of Springs County Council, who declared the show open, congratulated those responsible for the display on the splendid exhibits, contrasted them with the exhibits of three years ago, and remarked upon the wonderful progress made by growers during that time. Mr Bayliss, judge of cut flowers and vegetable sections, also" congratulated growers on their exhibits, and gave a short talk on chrysanthemum culture. Mrs T. W. Brooks spoke on behalf of Mrs W. B. Cunningham and herself, and congratulated exhibitors on the fine entries and also on the very fine decorative classes. The judges were: Mr W. Bayliss, Christchurch, cut blooms, fruit and vegetables; Mesdames W. B. Cunningham and T. W. Brooks, decorative, jam, eggs and cookery. PRIZE LIST. Cut Blooms.
