That card playing as a pastime was never more popular than at the present time has been strikingly demonstrated

V N on ma,ny occasions of late. At the latest social held in aid of St. James's Parish Hall fund, for* instance, there was an attendance of 112 players, aud a most enjoyable evening was spent. The announcement that Mrs Morrison, one of the oldest residents of the parish, had won the prize for the most successful lady player was received with very hearty applause. Mr D. Home was'the most successful gentleman player, and other prizes went to Mrs Gosdeu and Mr H. Inwood. A dance was 'held after supper, the musician being Mrs E. La'mbie. ■
