BOWLING AND TENNIS
LEESTON CLUB'S OPENING. .
In fine weather the ■ official opening of the Leeston bowiing and te,nnis season took-plaee last Saturday" afternoon. - There was a good muster at the green, '. including a number of visiting bowlers. The president of the Bowling, Tennis and Croquet Club, Mr E. TVL Eobertson, declared the season open, and Mrs Robertson delivered the first bowl. There-, . after the afternoon was spent in a•. Doubles Competition between teams led by the president r.ud vice-president, the green being fully occupied. The tennis players had a>,working- bee in preparation for. the laying of the aew ' courts, which are ..not expected to be ready for Some little time yet, the continued Vain last winter "having hindered progress. ■ ■ v A presentation of a tennis , racquet was made.by the president to Mr J. Purser in recognition of his services as general secretary for the" past seven years. The president spoke of Mr Pur- X ser's work, on behalf of the bowling .;• sections «.and Mr F. A. Wagner spoke for . the tennis section. The recipient made a suitable response. Members of the Club and visitors were the guests of the president and Mts Eobertson at after,noon tea..-
