THE "CAVALIER” CAPE

Smart with Tailored Suits The ensemble idea persiststhrough every season, but wits slight alterations. T his year tin addition of a cape in some form to the coat, dress, or suit seems to be inevitable. For instance, the top coat may have a shoulder cape, which in itsell will b«. detachable, and so can be won alone over the dress, or as a cape and skirt fashion, with a bloust if the ensemble consists of sui and top coat. Perhsps the most noticeable of the new'cape fashions is the “Cavalier” cape This hangslong and flared from the shoulders, reaching to any length from three-quarters or entirely cover ing the dress beneath- This tvpe of cape is suitable to m ini materials, and becomes sporting or dvessy according to whether it is made of tweed or velvetTailored Versions Already this cape is being worn to match tweed suits —long enough to show just a few inches of narrow skirt below its flaring hem; or a little shorter. There is another model which is made in tomato red proofed and which buttons all the way down the front. A belt shows in front only and keeps -the cape in place by gripping the wearer firmly round the waist. Altogether it is an ideal garment for wet weather when worn with serviceable black or brown accessories. Velvet for Evening Wear Again this cape makes a lovely evening wrap in velvet. It the dress beneath is velvet, then three- quarter length is sufficient and a mr collar or scarf collar of velvet that lies in a large, soft bow is especially smart. Molyneux shows the velvet evening cape gathered into the neck, and then the fullness gathered into a deep band of fur at the bottom- This looked lovely in black velvet and white flat fur; also in tomnto-red velvet with a band of sable-dyed squirre . Evening wraps in tulle consist of one, two or three tiers of coloured tulle, gathered into a neck-band and tied under the chin. These are very effective when in contrasting colour to the dress A sapphire blue tulle cape over while, grey, or silver is new and becoming. Brilliant red over a royal blue dress is another of this season’s smart colour combinations, while a reddish purple tulle wrap adds sophistication to a very simple frock in palest blue or pink. These wraps are the sort of thing anvone can make provided you decide to be lavish with the tulle, for they are literally just masses of tulle gathered into a plain neckline, although there may be several tows of gauging to make the shoulders set flat if one prefers it that way.
