A record, believed to be ,tin-m(-passed in Llie annals of the London Melmpolitan Pohee .Force is brought to light by the retirement, al’tep 2/> years’ service, of ('unstable I Lerbert Ward. Constable Ward's grandfather joined the foree in f.SLL and after serving for 17 years and six months was compelled I a retire owing to serious injuries received while on duly at Isieworth. Me lived to the age of 02. and died in I')(,)[!.. Mis son, e\-Serge.ini W. Ward, who lives at Hammersmith, and wlto is 70, joined the force in 1870. He retired in IBod as chief warrant-officer sergeant, being at llie i inn* attached L> (‘lerkeiiwell Police Court. His eldest sou joined Hn< I) Division in 1801b but died after serving Dp years. Constable ILriii'it Ward, who bas just retired, joined in Mareli. lood. lie served 2d years in the j lampslead division, and durmg the whole of the period was only unfit for service owing to sickness on 2d days, or one day a year.
