1000-FEET BRITISH LINER.
British shipbuilders may soon be busy constructing the world's largest liner. it is reported to-day, though confirmation cannot be obtained, that a firm on the upper reaches of the Clyde has asked the Clyde Trust whether, in the event of a vessel 1000 feet long being built, the width and depth of tlie river would be sufficient for launching the craft and affording it a safe passage to the open sea. The largest vessel at present afloat is the ex-German liner Majestic, 916 ft 6in in length. Awned by the White Star Line, and the largest vessel yet built on the Clyde is the Aquitania. <36811 Tin in length, constructed by Messrs John Brown and Co., of Clydebank, in 1914. There are on hie Clyde two or three shipbuilding firms, all in the, upper reaches, which could tackle suehmbj&job, ami (here is every confidence that ('lye Trust would bo able to do their part. If necessary, dredging would be undertaken, and it is not considered that difficulties at the turns of the channel would be ..i nsuperable.
