OPHIR SUNDAY SCHOOL BREAK-UP.

The fortnightly service in the Ophir Presbyterian c hurch on December 12 was mainly devoted to the Sunday School which meets weekly in the church building and which was dismissed on that date for the summer holidays. The Ilev. VV. F. Craigie conducted the service and preached a sermon well suited to the capacity of both young and old on the crown of righteousness. The preacher called upon the Rev A Don S S superintendent to read the annual report, the principal items of which were The School met continuously this year trom 1' chi'nary 28 to Dec 12—12 Sundays: number on roll -81, highest attendance 21; lowest 12; average slightly over 18; the teachers throughout were Mr Austing Mr ct Mrs Don; Miss Phoebe White taiuht for 6 months until removal to Dunedin; Mrs Don acted as organist, the Australian and New Zealand graded course of lessons was used; 2-1 copies of “The Scholar ’ (82 p.p.) and 18 copies of “The Break ol Day” are distributed free to the pupils monthly; lli ; S.S. collections lor 192 a amounting j to ho 8 7'were, on the resolution Jot the teachers, donated to the Maori mission fund of the Prcsbytrrian Church of New Zealand: the collections this year L 6 2 1 will be allocated by the teachers at next annual meeting: by a personal canvass (Mrs Guiltord driving to distant places) the superintendent collected Lll 7 from 89 donors toward | S.S. expenses for two years (1928 and 1927) the liabilities thus for this year amount to L 7 17; book prizes*To the number of 21 are presented to 15 prize winners: the young Worshippers League album was used at church services j and the Board of Management has given prizes to the girl and boy having the most complete set of pictures. Miss p. While's pupils and fellow teachers had presented her with a handsome book in remembrance ot her services at teaching 2J£ years. At the close of the service the Rev. W. Craigie presented the prizes, the prize list being as follows —. Class E: 1. May Winter, 2. Alan Pitches Class D: Wallace Least, 1. Ellen Craig 2, Isabel Whyte 3, Dorothy List 4 Class C; Davinia Cameron 1, Mavis Whyte 2. Class B: Audrey Cameron 1, Gordon Whyte 2, Edwin Guildford' 3r Class A, Girls: Margaret Craig 1. Class A, Boys: Gordon Least 1, Lloyd Least 2, Stanley Whyte 3. Attendance: (present every Sunday) Mavis Whyte, Davinia Cameron, Gor don Least 1, (absent ore Sunday) Gordon Whyte. Church attendance: Davinia Cameron (46 pictures) 1; Gordon Least (44 pictures) 2 During the prize distribution it was announced that the highest percentages of marks obtained were: Davinia Cameron 92 % 1; Wallace Least and Gordon Least 86% 2, Audrey Cameron 84%. There was a good congregation and the Rev. Mr /Craigie spoke in high terms of the good work that is being done in the Sunday School, and wished all the scholars a very good holidays.
