PATRIOTIC MEETING.

' A public meeting to consider the advisability of raising funds lor the pur pose of presenting returned soldiers with some suitable souvenir, and also to consider other business of a patriotic nature, was held in the Town Hall Clyde on Wednesday night last. Mr J. Smart presided and there were also present Messrs S. T. Spain, 11. E.' Stevens, J, Holt, C. Me Clone, J. E. Mcnzies, R. Bringans, S. A. Stevens, W Sutherland, A J- Maiden, F. J» Bloy, G, Riper, C. Sell, D. Smart, W. Lopdell, and Mesdames Spain, Maiden, Crozier, Bloy, Davis, Williams, Watson, Brennan Annan, Mcnzies, Smart, and Misses Naylor, Dickie, and Houlihan.

After discussion it was unanimously decided that each returned soldier be presented with a gold medal and framed certificate. Mrs Annan, Messrs Me Clone and Mcnzies were appointed collectors, A sub-committee, consisting of the Chairman and Secretary, and Messrs S. Stevens, Menzies and Maiden, were appointed to make the necessary arrangements The secretary was instructed to get quotations and samples of medals etc.

A letter was read from the Soldier’s Club committee asking assistance. It was pointed out that Mrs Spain had decided to hold a Garden Fete at Earnscleugh on Easter Monday in aid of the Club, and the ladies present were appointed a sub-committee to assist in the worthy object. Some discussion took place re celebrating peace, and it was decided to arrange for this at the next meeting.
