CLYDE SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the Clyde School Committee, held on Monday evening was attented by Messrs H. E. Stevens (chair), J. Vercoe, C. Pont, W, Holloway and Jas. Wilson. The head teacher’s report showing the average attendance 75 was read and adopted. The visiting committee reported that everything was in good order Attention was drawn to the fact that the bell was not rung regularly and the information was supplied that the bell was out of order—a new rope being required. The visiting committee were instructed to have a rope supplied. and the chairman was requested to ask that the bell be used regularly, Messrs Vercoe and Pont were appointed a visiting committee. Some discussion ensued re the matter of rural instruction, and a suggestion was made that the scholars would derive a great more benefit if the plot of ground set apart for rural instruction were devoted to the growing of fruit trees. One member remarked that the results of the previous experiments had simply demonstrated that nothing had flourished. Mr Holloway drew attention to the fact that Mr S. A. Stevens, had shown great interest in the matter of instructing several of the elder boys in the pruning of trees, and he accordingly moved a hearty vote of thanks to Mr Stevens which was seconded by Mr Wilson and carried.
