(From our own correspondent.) Dunedin, August nth. FOOTBALL. The Christchurch premier team (Old Boys) deteated Dunedin’s premier team (Zingari) by 18 points to hj. University defeated Pirates by 20 points to ii. Wellington defeated Southland in representative hockey at Wellington on Saturday by four goals to nil. The New Zealand cross country championship was decided over five and a half miles at Wingatui on Saturday afternoon, the result being a handsome win for the Otago team, five members of which filled the first five places. J. Beatson (29mm ssecs) was first.

On Saturday evening one of the auxiliary firemen named Robt. Duncan was standing near the fire brigade station when a young man approached him and used some insulting remarks.
