Two loads of timber for the Kawarau 'Junction dredge passed through Clyde on Friday last. /Timber for the Riley's Beack dredge is coming to hand, Two loads wore landed at the site on Jfridad last.
The -secretary of the Dunstan Lead Dredging i orapany reports having rece.ved the to.lowing from the dredgemaster, dated 13th inst:—Centrifugal pump.—The shaft came to hand, and was put into position, and the pump connected Engine itoom.—The engine room is ail rooted in and lined- The engine is cleaned and rtady for a stait. Have had steam up on boiler 140lbs pressure. All rivets and joints fairly tight. Have had steam on which, which works well. The diedge is shifted down the river to where the e evator ws put together, and now. ready to put the elevator on when everything comes to hand. I am sorry I have not more progress to report to you this month. When the gear did land in Weddcrburn tue roads were very bad, and no waggons travelling, so we could not get it on. 1 had a wire that it was loaded on Thuisday, so it should be to hand any -jinie now. I hope to be able to inform you that I am leady for a stait by the director's next meeting. A faatisiaotory trial run was taken out of the Boundary Creek yesterday. The annnal meeting of the Magnetic Co. announced for Wednesday last, lapsed for want of a quorum. Of the [3O shareholders 10 could not be found sufficiently inteiested to attend. The meeting accordingly stands udjourned until Tuesday 23rd inst.
Mr Fache, late of the Waipuna dredgo, has been appointed master of the North Beach dredge, West Coast. The Stir,ing dredgp (says the 'Bruce Herald ') is reported to be on very g jod gold. r J he returns for the past six weeks have averaged 30oz per week. The uairnmuir worked steadily last week, but did not wash-up, We understand that she has not yet bottomed. A load of machinery for the Sailor's. A load of machinery (including a number of buckets) arrived yesterday for the Bendigo dredge.
The Kelly and Casey washed up last week for 15oz 15dwt. This retuin for her first week's work is considered highly satisfactory. Considerable delay has been cassed in the vvoik of completing the Monte Christo dredge owing to the non-arrival of some parts. The Matau has struck a better run of wash. She washed up for 83oz last week. The Vincent's return showed a decided improvement last week, and it is expected that this week's operations will be even better.
'J he Unity has also got on go'd, and it is though that 'the"rich run in 'her claim has been picked up again. She had the misfortune to break the elevator pinion on Monday morning which necessitates a stoppage of two or three days.
Ihe Vincent Extended has been shifted further up the claim. There was no wash up last week. The repairs for the Half-way House dredge arrived yesterday. The dredge wih probably resume before the end of the week.
The Otago Dredging Company have declared a dividend (the 28th) of Is per shave, The Matau Company have declared a dividend of Is per share. During the rast few days there has been considerable comment amongst min ing investors owing to a report in connection v\*fth a return which it was stated had been received last Tuesday by the secretary of; tho' Alpine .No 2 Company. \\ e learn that the matttr came before the Dunedin Stock Exchange yesterday moping and a committee was appointed to tall at the office of the company and make inquiiio* as to the truth or otherwise of the report. In reply to their inquiries the secretaiy that a tefegravu from, the dfedgemaster giving the 'return as (JOoz had been late last Tuesday afternoon, and that for various reason he did not consider it necessary to publish the information. The reasons assigned did not appear to the committee to he srich, a« might; b<? considered entirely tatisljactory, a&d they ranortyd accordingly to the Exchange ai. the afternoon meeting. The antimony syndicate have purchased a two horae power boiles and engine for pumping their main shaft as the influx of water is to much too bo lifted by hand.
