CAMBRIANS.

(From a Correspondent). January 29th. After a few days of something like snmmer weather, we yesterday had a re version to the execrable weather with which we have been treated since the commence* ment of the year. What the crops about this locality will be this season it is impossible to foretell ; at all events harvest will be a month or six weeks later than usual. The area under crop this season is considerably less than the previous one, owipg to .the supply exceeding the demand last season. When, oh when, will the Otago Central (reach ns so that an'outlet can be had for prodbce in them ; the treeless wilds- ht “ Mid-Otago ” will be converted into > g»rdw>; w our tnsoooWoversd valleys. idea can be formed of the value of the Flat to the district generally. Clergymen still come and go—Presbyterian I mean—and I notice at the meeting of the Synod in Dunedin the Lauder parish, is reported as being in a state of disorganisation. That sounds bad, whatever it may mean, and whether from want of faith, or want of funds, o; how we are in such a mess, report sayeth not. There were not wanting those who a-ssrted that it was premature to have erected the district into a pafiab, and the events seem to have proved them pretty' correct; Tim annual statuary meeting for the elootiion of a School Committee, was held here on fhe evening of the sßth. The attendance wan small j no doubt the inclement weather helped this. Thirteen gentlemen were present, Mr Elliot, of the Lauder Station, having been voted to the chair, the Secretary read the report of the retiring Committee, which was considered satisfactory, and on the motion of Mr W. Clunie, seconded by Mr G. B, Jones, was adopted as read. Eleven householders were nominated, and a poll having been taken, the following gentlemen were declared elected, via.;—S. M‘Cullough, W. Clunie, J. Teague, T. Davis, O. Owens, J. R. Jones, and J. Griffiths, the four first-named having served on the preceding Committee.
