Loverg of music will be pleased to hear that Mr S. H. Knight has been re appointed conductor of the Hastings Band. A meeting of the Cemetery Trustees was hekl last evening. Mr C. A. FitzRov wrote resigning his position as chairman and trustee owing to his having taken up his residence at Havelock. Resignation of chuirmanshir) acccpted with regret. Mr FitzRoy to be asked to continue as trusic*? iwmding further arrangements. The preseiti sexton (Mr T. White) resigned his position and Mr Arthur White was appointed. Mr G. Land was appointed chairman, vice Mr C. A. FitzRoy resigned. Tt was deckled to hold a meeting of tlie trustees on Monday for the purpose of considering the question of asking the Borough Council to take over the management of the cemeterv. This concluded the business. A committee meeting of tlie Hastings Poultrv and Pigeon Society was held in the Carlton Club Hotel
last evening. Mr W. Hart presidi'ng. It was deci(k>-d that the society upbold the action of the North Island Poultrv Association in adhering to the rules in reference to unlicensixl societies. The secretarv of the North Island Minoroa antl Ixighorn Club, Palmerston North, askod if the society would run their show in conjunetion with and under the auspices of the Hastings show, entries to be open to members of the Minorca and Leghorn Clubs only. Vgreed to, provided the Mana wa tu Poultrv Societv sauctioned the pronosal. Tlvc sum of £3 3s was voted Mr Marshall for his services at the last show. Tlie following sub-com-mittees were appointed to revise tlie schedule for the a^oroaching show: —Poultrv, Messrs IV. Hart andJ M. •lolmson. Pio»eons. Messrs W. Sturroek aml A. Leipst. This concluded the business. ^ The proprietor of the Prinoess Theatre has recpived a lett-er from the secretarv of the Fire Brigade proposing that he should pay the firemen in uniform ennointed by the brigade to be in official attendance at thc theatre during the progross of nertormances. The letter also asks that conveniences, such as buckets, be placed in liandy plaees so as to be available in the early stages of an outbreak of fire. The theatre people claim that. as a volunteer boclv, the Fire Brigade cannot charge for their services, and that, in Any case. the threatre proprietorv are not lia*ble as the responsibility for pavment falls on the theatrical companies leasing the theatre for the time being. Ihe Hastings Chorol Society are Ivard at work rehearsing their next production. *' Joan of Arc." Some forty performers were present at last night's nractice, whesi a good deal of excellent work was gone through. under the direction of Mr H. D. Crump. Colonel Da\des will insnect the Hawke's Bay Mounted Rifles on Wednesday aftemoon and submit the Hastings Rifles to a similar ordeal on the following evening.
